The Nigeria Police Force, Oyo State command, has arrested a schoolteacher for impersonating an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in the state.

It was gathered that the 50-year-old level 14 secondary school teacher identified as Adebisi Ayodele, is an alleged serial police impersonator.

Police Command

The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP. Adewale Osifeso told newsmen in Ibadan, the State capital, that the impersonator was arrested on Sunday at Asejire in Egbeda Local Government of the state while providing illegal escort services in a Red Mitsubishi space wagon with Registration Number, ARP 34 AA.

The police spokesperson said that “The command has identified and apprehended one Adebisi Ayodele ‘m’ a level 14 elementary school teacher at Ikereku- Idan, Abeokuta, Ogun State who has been presenting himself as an Assistant Superintendent of Police attached to Police Mobile Force Unit of the Nigeria Police Force for (13) thirteen years.

“The suspect at the time of arrest on Sunday 22/08/2022 at Asejire under Egbeda Local Government was providing illegal escort services in a Red Mitsubishi space wagon with Registration No. ARP 34 AA, dressed in complete police uniform in the company of another female passenger.”

According to the police, two unexpended canisters were found from the suspect at the point of arrest, while he also confessed to having stolen the police mobile uniform and kits from his neighbour’s house in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

In a 29 seconds video seen by Newsmen, the suspect confessed to the crime, adding that he put on the police uniform to make his victims believe that he was a top police officer.

“I do wear the police uniform to make the people know that it is true that I am a police officer,” he said.

The suspect who also admitted that the unnamed woman he was providing service before he was arrested knew that he was a teacher added, “I stole the uniform, the canisters and other kits from my neighbour’s house in Abeokuta; I’m a primary school teacher.

“I’m currently in level 14, and I love the police job, and have been telling people in my area that I’m a policeman, so like five years ago I stole the uniform and kits and I started wearing it so that people will know truly that I’m a policeman. I have not committed any offence with it before.”
