The Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Chief Dr. George Moghalu, has received the chieftaincy title of Ohamadike of Nnewi in Nnewi north Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Igwe Kenneth Orizu (111), who bestowed the title on Dr. George Moghalu alongside Hon. Chris Azubuogu (House of Representatives member representing Nnewi North, Nnewi south and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency ) , Prof. Kingsley Moghalu ( Former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria), Engr. Dozie Mbanefo (Managing Director of New crystal Communications ) and Dr. Theo Okeke, described Chief Dr. George Moghalu as a worthy son of Nnewi and salute him for his sincerity of purpose, humanitarian services and unprecedented achievements within one year in office as the NIWA boss.
Igwe Kenneth Orizu (111) , at the ceremony to mark his 57th anniversary on the throne with yet another Ofala said those honoured were sons , daughters and friends of the community who have distinguished themselves in their areas of callings and who have contributed to the development of the community in so many ways .
In his words: Chieftaincy bestowed on some people today is not because of how much they brought, but because of their positive contributions to the society and the development of Nnewi”
Igwe Kenneth Orizu (111) futher advised all traditional rulers especially in Igbo land to always endeavour to restore the dignity of chieftaincy titles by conferring such honour on people of impeccable character only.
Chief Moghalu in his remark after receiving the chieftaincy title, commended Igwe Kenneth Orizu(111) for the honour done on him and equally expressed his appreciation to the entire people of Nnewi for their supports and prayers, adding that he could not have achieved the feats alone without collective effort.
He thereafter promised to continue supporting his people, as well as redoubling efforts in taking Anambra State to the next level as we approach to governorship election and urged all to help in bringing the development of the community to limelight.
Highlights of the event which includes the official opening of the ultramodern Igwe Orizu museum, cultural and musical performance , display of masquerade, Abiriba dance troupe, Mkpokiti , the dance troupe from Oba Nsukka and Inyikiriputu musical troupe which all performed to add colour to the Festival
