Following their defeat at Ibadan last week, El-Kanemi Warriors of Borno has returned to winning ways in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).
They beat Niger Tornadoes in Maiduguri, with only a goal to secure three points on Matchday12 of the league.
The goal came from legendary attacker Mustapha Ibrahim, also known as Yuga, who pounced on a rebounce after the visitors’ goalkeeper punched a powerful strike by Elka’s left back, Usman Abbas.
Tornadoes struggled for an equalizer in the last half hour of the match. They came close in the 70th minutes by scoring a goal that was ruled out by the match official for a foul, handball.
While the home side pushed for a security goal, the visitors failed to net an equalizer.
The Kanem Warriors missed a big chance in the extra-time to make it two nill and the match ended 1-0 at the final whistle.
Having secured 19 points, Elka moved to two spots above, 5th on the league table.
With a double home fixture, El-Kanemi will host Akwai United in the coming weekends, Saturday.
