PRESS RELEASE BY OHANAEZE YOUTH COUNCIL

Rochas Okorocha and Chidi Ibe’s Threats to Shutdown Ohanaeze Secretariat, Very Laughable – OYC

The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), has called for an abrupt end to Sen. Rochas Okorocha and Mr Chidi Ibe’s undue interference and unnecessary careless statements as regards the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

The apex Igbo youth group which called the bluff off the pronouncement and threat by Mr Ibe to shutdown the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Secretariat, added that he does not possess the capacity nor legal backing to execute such act, urging Ndigbo to ignore his comments.

OYC National President, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, fielding questions from newsmen at Enugu on Monday, February 1, 2021, noted that since the emergence of Prof. George Obiozor as president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo duly elected on 10th January 2021 at Owerri, Okorocha has been aiding his errand boy, Mr. Ibe to be dishing out unsavoury and unguided statements.

“Mr. Chidi Ibe is merely speaking with excitement as he enjoys the looted fund of Ndi Imo through his sponsor and paymaster, Sen. Rochas Okorocha, who has sworn to destabilize Alaigbo and Ohanaeze because of his presidential ambition,” Igboayaka revealed.

Comrade Igboayaka stated that the Ohanaeze Secretariat situated at No 7 Park Avenue Enugu, “is not a secret yard, but an office where every Igbo person have access to, therefore, it is very ridiculous and childish that Mr. Chidi Ibe after taking a picture in the premises of the newly constructed Ohanaeze Ndigbo Secretariat pronounced on the pages of newspapers and online media that he has shutdown the Secretariat.”

The OYC leader pointed out that the side distraction of Sen. Okorocha and his errand boy must cease.

“It’s unfortunate that before the election, Rochas Okorocha tried to convince the members of Ime-Obi, Elders Council of Ohanaeze Ndigbo to compensate him with the slot of the President-General because he was building a new Secretariat of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, but such selfish request was turned down by Ime-Obi members and Elders Council of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

“In a desperate bid to achieve his selfish political desire, Okorocha, on 9th January 2021, in his residence at Spibat Owerri, selected one Mr. Chidi Ibe who was his commissioner during the time he was the Imo state governor, and who never contested for the position of president-general, and sponsored him to be parading himself as the president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo,” Comrade Igboayaka revealed.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo ably led by Prof. George Obiozor as the President General and his new national executive committee have an open National Secretariat where every indigenous Igbo person can visit anytime to proffer workable solution on how to build Alaigbo. Therefore, Chidi Ibe’s picture where he posed at the Secretariat was a mere gimmick and stunt, powered by Okorocha to deceive the general public,” Comrade Igboayaka stated.

Igboayaka reminded Okorocha that all the legal suit he is sponsoring using Barr. Uche Okwukwu, the former Secretary General and his errand boy, Chidi Ibe will die a natural death, advising them to be patriotic and support the leadership of Prof. George Obiozor.

He, however, urged Prof. George Obiozor not to be distracted by the antics of Rochas Okorocha, Mr. Chidi Ibe and their cohorts but endeavour to engage the progressive and patriotic Igbo groups and individuals that have something to offer in the way forward to achieve economic and political development of Alaigbo.

He assured Igbo youths that Prof. Obiozor’s leadership of the pan-Igbo organization is the most pro-youth administration that have articulated youth policies which includes establishment of skill acquisition/investment education centre for Igbo youths across Igbo states, strengthening the Ohanaeze Youth Council multi-purpose cooperative society for youth empowerment, establishment of Ohanaeze Youth Council centre for leadership and Social Re-engineering/Reorientation for Igbo to breach the gap of successional leadership in Igboland and mentoring of young leaders for present and future leadership challenges.

Signed:
Chukwuemeka Chimerue,
Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the OYC National President.
