Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has granted clemency to 117 convicts serving prison terms in the State, in celebration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary Ebenezer Adeniran, explains that the initiative follows recommendations from the Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, reflecting a commitment to rehabilitation and second chances within the justice system.
The decision was formally announced in a press release signed by Dr. Olukoyade Ajulo, SAN, the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, who also chairs the Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy.
Governor Aiyedatiwa signed the release orders on September 27th, 2024, with the changes set to take effect on October 1st, 2024.
