One suspect dies, three others arrested for impersonating EFCC operatives, robbing FEDPoly students in Nasarawa

A fleeing member of a 4- man robbery and kidnapping syndicate who pretended to be operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been confirmed dead by the Nasarawa State Police Command.

The deceased in a statement issued by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, on Wednesday was caught and beaten mercilessly by an angry mob before the arrival of the Police while others fled.

“The suspect was rescued from the mob by the Police and rushed to Primary Healthcare, Laminga where he died receiving treatment”.

According to the statement the syndicate used Toyota Corolla, Green in color with registration number Abuja YAB 509 TT to commit the crimes.

Nansel also confirmed the arrest of the remaining members by the Police operatives after robbing students of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa at Samakwe Lodge behind Government College, Nasarawa and abducting one Adudu Kingsley, an ND 11 student of the same Polytechnic.

The suspects namely, Hyelda Aliyu Ibrahim, Henry Patrick Okwu and Shaibu Abubakar are residents of Custom Quarters and UP Market area of Masaka, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The items recovered from the suspects include operational vehicle, one iPhone 12 promax, Huawei and one Tecno Spark 5 earlier robbed from some of their victims and fake EFCC cards as exhibits.

“The suspects have confessed to be the syndicate responsible for robbing and terrorising students in Keffi and Nasarawa LGA.

“Effort is ongoing to arrest one identified suspect that is at large.

Victims of their nefarious activities have come forward and identified the suspects”, the statement reads.

The statement added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Shehu Umar Nadada has ordered the transfer of the case to State Criminal Investigation and assured that they will be charged to court for prosecution once the investigation is concluded.
