- Gradual global recognition of the need for good governance emerged only from the 1990s onwards.
- Although different meanings of good governance exist, the term is generally associated with political, economic and social goals that are deemed necessary for achieving development.
- Hence, good governance is the process whereby public institutions conduct public affairs and manage public resources in a manner that promotes the rule of law and the realization of human rights.

Flagrant disobedience of court order is lawlessness:
there’s no society that will prosper through lawlessness;
Citizens, particularly public office holders must be law-abiding and uphold the basic tenets of the law so that we can achieve the desired development. Some persons occupying privileged positions of authority were flagrantly disobeying court orders and most importantly supreme court judgment: Godwin Emefiele and Abubakar Malami both very senior public officers holding very sensitive positions.
Additionally, aside from several infractions and disobedience of court judgments, the Department of State Services (DSS) had secretly approached a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja to arrest Emefiele over alleged terrorism financing and economic crimes of national security, But Justice Maryam Hassan quashed the move.
The judge thereafter barred the DSS from arresting, inviting, or detaining Emefiele declaring the terrorism allegations against the CBN governor by the DSS as vindictive, callous, oppressive, void and of no effect. This is akin to taking refuge in the same court that they both dishonored.
Terrorists are often labeled as madmen. But are they technically insane? In short, No. Psychologists believe that those joining groups like ISIS are not psychopaths or even brainwashed.
Oftentimes, individuals join terrorist organizations as an expression of political strategy, since most terrorist organizations act for political—and what they believe to be strategic—reasons.
Sadly, unlike many other people around the globe, Nigerians have been through hell in the hands of unscrupulous public office holders as exemplified by Godwin Emefiele and Abubakar Malami unholy alliance.
While there is no one profile that defines all terrorists, many of those who end up committing violence for political or religious purposes share several traits.
As laid out by John Horgan, PhD, director of Pennsylvania State University’s International Center for the Study of Terrorism, these traits include: feeling angry, alienated, or disenfranchised.
Believing that their current political involvement does not give them the power to effect real change. Identifying with the perceived victims of the social injustice they are fighting.
Feeling the need to take action rather than just talking about the problem. Believing that engaging in violence against the state is not immoral. Believing that joining a movement offers social and psychological rewards such as adventure, camaraderie, and a heightened sense of identity.
For those who do not know, the foundation of some of the misgovernance, particularly disobedience of court orders and most importantly supreme court judgments was laid by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
As such, the rascality and impunity that we are all witnessing today is a function of yesterday’s recklessness. Unsurprisingly, exactly 10 days after the Supreme Court judgement mandated the use of old N,1000 and N500 notes as legal tender till December 31, 2023, the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele, on Monday 13, March 2023 bowed to pressure and officially ordered commercial banks to comply with the court verdict. Sad realities of our beloved country Nigeria.
No doubt, the so-called Naira swap has sufficiently inflicted pains occasioned by the heartless oppressors (modern era terrorists), many of our citizens died, businesses ruined and many unpleasant situations. Hence the verdict of history, verdict of posterity and the judgment of God that will visit the oppressors. Finally, using the words of encouragement from the holy book 2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
