A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State, Chief Longers Anyanwu, has commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for the emergence of Orashi Electricity Company as Nigeria’s 11th electricity distribution company.
Anyanwu gave the commendation after witnessing the commissioning and lighting up of the Orashi 15MVA, 33/11KV injection sub-station in Owerri on Friday, which he described as an epoch-making event in the history of Imo State’s electricity development.
According to him, Imo State has for decades grappled with erratic power supply, a challenge that has constrained economic growth, disrupted businesses, and diminished the quality of life of residents.
He described the Orashi Electricity Company as a bold and visionary intervention by the Uzodimma administration to reverse this trend.
“The establishment of Orashi Electricity Company as Nigeria’s 11th distribution company is not just an infrastructural achievement; it is a statement of intent.
“It shows that Governor Uzodimma is committed to solving long-standing problems with practical and sustainable solutions,” Anyanwu said.
He explained that the Orashi Electricity project, designed to deliver uninterrupted 24-hour power supply to Owerri and its environs, is a pilot initiative with far-reaching plans to cover all local government areas of Imo State.
He added that the project holds immense promise for households, artisans, traders, and especially small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs).
“With reliable electricity, businesses can operate at full capacity without depending on generators and expensive fuel.
“This will significantly reduce operational costs, encourage investment, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth across the state,” he noted.
Anyanwu further stressed that the impact of stable electricity supply goes beyond convenience, describing it as the backbone of industrialization and economic competitiveness.
He said the Uzodimma-led administration, by prioritizing power infrastructure, is laying a solid foundation for a prosperous and economically vibrant Imo State.
He urged Imolites to support and protect the infrastructure, noting that its success depends on collective responsibility, while calling on investors to take advantage of the improved power outlook in the state.
“The birth of Orashi Electricity Company is a testament to purposeful leadership. Governor Uzodimma deserves commendation for placing Imo State firmly on the national map of economic advancement,” Anyanwu concluded.
