Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has directed all residents, including politicians across party lines, to stay away from local government secretariats.
The governor’s directive aims to prevent further bloodshed and protect public property, particularly as the secretariats remain under lock and key following the withdrawal of services by members of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) across the state.
This new directive comes amid the reportedly failed attempt by sacked All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmen and councillors to take over local government councils in Osun State.
Governor Adeleke also extended his condolences to the families of victims affected by the violence, which he attributed to APC and its alleged hired thugs.
He confirmed that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) lost five members in the clashes, with several others injured, with two fatalities recorded in Iragbiji, Boripe Local Government, two at Ola Oluwa Local Government, and one in Ikire.
In light of the escalating turmoil, the governor has ordered security agencies to take full control of all local government secretariats to restore order and ensure the safety of Osun residents.
“I hereby assure residents of Osun of their safety and the protection of lives and properties,” Governor Adeleke stated.
