Outrage as aspiring model allegedly killed over phone theft in Jos

Jos: Ibahim Pilasar Mbaya, popularly known as Ibee, a prominent model, chef and contestant for Mr. And Miss Glam Nigeria 2026, has reportedly died after he was allegedly accused of stealing a phone and brutally assaulted in a case of jungle justice.

According to reports, Ibee Mbaya, a graduate of University of Jos, was accused of stealing an iPhone 12. Despite reportedly denying the allegation, his friends allegedly descended on him with different weapons, subjecting him to severe beating that eventually led to his death.

The tragic incident allegedly occurred on Sunday July 26, 2026, around Ring Road in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, sending shockwaves across community and sparkling anger and condemnation on social media.

Many people reacting to the incident have expressed outrage over the alleged killing, questioning why the matter was not reported to the police for proper investigation and legal action.

Rather than taking the law into their own hands, commuters argued that the alleged victim of the accusation could have been handed over to the law enforcement authorities if there was genuine suspicion that he had committed a crime.

The incident has once again raised concerns over the dangers of jungle justice, where individuals or mobs takes matters into their own hands instead of allowing the police and courts to investigate allegations and determine guilt.

An accusation, regardless of how serious it may appear, does not automatically make a person guilty.

Proper investigation and due process are essential to prevent innocent people from becoming victims of mob violence.

The reported death of Ibrahim Pilasar “Ibee” Mbaya has therefore generated widespread calls for justice, accountability and an end to mob attacks in communities.
