About 9,200 returnee Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have received intervention from Yobe State government and two nongovernmental organizations.
The IDPs are victims of flood from five communities in Gujba local government area of the state.
They are Goniri, Gotala, Dadingel, Ngurbuwa and Mandunari, all under Gujba East.
This is according to a statement by Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) on Monday, where it noted that the two NGOs are World Food Programme (WFP) and the Centre for Community Development and Research Network (CCDRN).
According to the statement, the initiative is part of a broader effort to provide essential aid and support to vulnerable households affected by displacement.
It explained that each household beneficiary received a monthly food voucher worth N59,000 and the program started in August.
Describing the program as successful, YOSEMA noted all registered beneficiaries have received the support.
However, it noted that about 25 accredited households are yet to claimed their entitlement.
On beneficiaries registration exercise, the statement said that, ”a stakeholders’ engagement meeting was held to discuss the scale-up registration, bringing together representatives from WFP, YOSEMA, community leadership, security agencies, and other relevant stakeholders, aimed at ensuring the successful execution of the registration exercise.
”To prevent unauthorized collection, the card collection methodology involved using mobile point-of-sale (mPOS) devices with fingerprint authentication. Out of the 7,084 cards collected, 215 were identified as duplicates, leaving 6,869 cards for distribution. As of September 6, only 41 cards were left for collection.”
YOSEMA added that the support underscores the commitment of the state government and the two NGOs in providing timely and effective assistance to returnee IDPs, ensuring they have access to essential resources during this critical period of resettlement and recovery.
