Emergency call has been put across to the people’s governor of Imo state, His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodinma to assist the people of Owerri Community to renovate their Cultural Center.
Ugwu Ekwema Cultural Center is the Jerusalem ground and the place of pilgrimage for the Owerri people of Imo state Nigeria as gathered by 9News Nigeria.
This call was made hours after the grand finale of the year 2022 Oru Owere Cultural Festival was celebrated by the people of the area.
Visitors to the Yam Festival on Saturday regretted the riketty condition of such a wonderful edifice put in place by Okorocha’s adminstration in the heart of the capital city of the state.
Our correspodents who were live at the venue of Oru Owere Cultural Festival gathered that the gigantic building is overgrown with bushes while the roof and aluminum zinc destroyed.
Recall that Owerri people beckoned on the Okorocha’s adminstration who saw it as important to set up such a structure but regrettedly the past adminstration was short-lived to continue with the project.
However the people of Owerri irrespective of party affiliation have come together to call on governor Uzodinma to renovate the only cultural center in Owerri and put it to use.
The space of land can be used for Cultural events and showcase of Traditional heritage of Owerri/Igboland when completed.
It can also be a fast source of revenue to the Owerri people and can add a little money to the state internally generated revenue IGR for Government use.

While Speaking with the Traditional and community leaders of Owerri Community on the present condition of the Cultural Center, Traditional Prime Minister, Chief Paul Ogechi Nnawuchi (Owe of Owere) regretted the level of decay of such a wonderful building set up by past adminstration which is supposedly be functional to the benefit of both Owerri people and the state at large.
The house of Assembly member representing Owerri Municipal Hon solomon Anukam and other Government appointees from Owerri Municipal and the zone in extension are to lead a delegation to meet with the governor to approve the renovation of Ugwu Ekwema Cultural Center Owerri.
Ugwu Ekwema Cultural cum civic center is an eyesore by its present sorry situation. Imo Government should please come to the rescue of the Owerri people to renovate and put to use the center.
