– Rivers govt to honour peace agreement brokered by Police, DSS —Wike
PORT HARCOURT — RIVERS State governor, Mr. Nyesom Wike, has said that he will implement the resolutions of the peace meeting he signed in Abuja recently under the watch of the Police and the Department of State Security, DSS.
It will be recalled that heads of the two security agencies had a peace parley with the duo of Governor Wike and Minister of Transportation, Mr Chibuike Amaechi, on how to promote peace in the state during the re-run elections and after.
Governor Wike, who spoke in Degema Local Government Area of the state, yesterday, during a senatorial campaign of his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said that he participated actively in the peace parley because of his desire for enduring peace in the state.
Assuring that the state government will continue to partner security agencies to promote peace in the state, he said those who wanted crisis in the state will always be disappointed. He said: “I was at the peace meeting because we love peace and want the state to move forward.
I signed an undertaking on your behalf that we are prepared for INEC’s credible, free and fair elections. “It is not in our interest to have a crisis because we will be the losers.”
