Peter Obi, former Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has officially declared his intention to run for president again in 2027. Speaking during a live session on X (formerly Twitter), Obi explained why he wants to lead Nigeria — and what he plans to do differently.

According to Obi, his decision to contest is not about politics as usual, but about fixing the urgent problems affecting Nigerians. He promised to serve only one term if elected and said his mission is clear: rescue Nigeria and restore stability.

Why Peter Obi Wants to Be President:
1. To stop insecurity and killings
Obi said he’s deeply concerned about ongoing violence in places like Benue and Zamfara. “Nigeria is like a country at war,” he said. “We must act now.”
2. To fix the economy
He emphasised the need to rebuild Nigeria’s struggling economy, boost productivity, and create jobs. “We need to bring our industries back to life,” he said.
3. To fight hunger and poverty
Obi stressed that many Nigerians are unable to afford basic food, calling for urgent action to reduce poverty.
4. To prioritise education and security
He listed security, education, and poverty reduction as his top priorities for his first 100 days in office.
5. To lead with integrity
“My family will not be involved in corruption,” Obi said, promising to channel funds into critical sectors and cut the cost of governance from day one.
6. To restore responsible leadership
He criticised the current administration for misplaced priorities. “While people are dying, leaders are commissioning bus stops and taking holidays,” he said.
7. To bring stability within two years
Obi said that if elected, his goal is to stabilise the country within the first half of his four-year term.
8. To promote honest governance
He called for leaders to live and work in Nigeria — not govern from abroad. “Leaders must stay in the country and fix it,” he said.
9. To end political defection
Obi promised to stop elected officials from switching parties, saying, “There will be no defection under my leadership.”
10. To run a peaceful and transparent campaign
He assured Nigerians that the 2027 campaign would be non-violent and fair. “Our votes must count,” he said.

Though rumours suggested a possible alliance with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Obi ruled it out. He said any coalition must focus solely on solving Nigeria’s problems — not just winning power.

Obi also reaffirmed his support for power rotation between the North and South, saying it reflects fairness, which he had previously practised as governor of Anambra State.

In closing, Obi challenged all aspiring leaders to be ready to serve selflessly.
