Agodi Secretariat axis of Ibadan on Monday witnessed heavy traffic as scores of physically challenged persons across the 33 Local Government Areas of Oyo State stormed the city to express their displeasure to the State government in a peaceful protest.
The protesters, 9news gathered, were demanding more slots in the non-teaching arm of the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM).
It would be recalled that the State recently recruited more that 5,000 teaching and non-teaching personnel into the education system of the state.
The physically challenged people alleged that their applications as non-teaching staff of TESCOM were largely rejected because of their disabilities.
It took the intervention of the security operatives among whom were Police, DSS, Amotekun Corps and NSCDS who were drafted to the main gate of the Secretariat in order to avert break down of law and order.
One of the protesters, Adegbuyi Adekunle who spoke to 9News correspondent appealed to the Governor of the state, Engr. Seyi Makinde to intervene and address the matter. He said, “We are protesting because of TESCOM’s non teaching appointment. Most of our people were not given appointment. Instead of giving appointment to our people, the disabled, the able people have taken everything”.
“They are supposed to give us 5 per cent; which is 350 jobs. They gave us 149 instead. That is not fair and that is the reason we are here. We want the Governor to prevail. We want the Governor to intervene.”
