Jos — Plateau State Government has announced the resumption of academic activities in all public and private schools across the state, effective Monday, September 14, 2026.

The directive comes after one-week precautionary closure, which took effect on September 7, 2026, following reported cases of suspected Diphtheria infection in some parts of the state.

According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the closure was to enable health authorities assess the situation and strengthen surveillance and response mechanisms.

The government assured parents, guardians and school owners that adequate health measures have been put in place to minimise the risk of transmission as school reopen.

It directed all schools to maintain a clean and hygienic learning environment and to remain vigilant for symptoms suggestive of Diphtheria, with prompt reporting to health authorities.

Parents and guardians were also urged to prioritize personal hygiene, including regular handwashing, avoiding close contact with persons showing suspicious symptoms, and seeking prompt medical attention, while warning against self-medication and concealment of suspected cases.
