Immediate past Governor of Plateau State and Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District at the National Assembly Simon Bako Lalong has appealed to his successor
Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang to urge the speaker Plateau State House of Assembly Gabriel Kudangbena Dewan, to swear in the sixteen elected members which include 15 from All Progressives Congress (APC) and 1 for Labour Party (LP) who were declared winners by the Appeal Court.
Senator Lalong stated this at the funeral service of the State Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Sylvanus Namang said the current political stalemate in the state occasioned by the non availability of complete members in the state assembly, saying how can only one member laying claim to being the only member in the state assembly.
He called on the state governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang to use his good office in uniting the people and allowing for demcratic rule to take place in the state.
He urged the speaker to swear in the new members without delay “Since the Appellate Court had reaffirmed them as the authentic winners of the election”.
Recall in January 2024, the speaker said he would not swear in the new members until the court’s verdict on the suit filed by the sacked 16 PDP lawmakers.
Although, the Appeal Court recently dismissed the suit and fined the sacked and fined the lawmakers N128 million (N8 million each) for seeking rewiew of its judgement.
The PDP lawmakers have have aggrieved ever since they were axed by the Appellate Court in what was later considered as an erroneous judgement based on on the Supreme Court’s decision on similar matters.
However, their latest efforts to have the judgement reviewed yielded no fruit.
