The Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has suspended a factional chairman aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, intensifying the internal crisis rocking the party.
The suspended official, Peter Tongshep, who recently emerged as chairman of a Wike-backed faction alongside 38 executives, was barred for one month over alleged anti-party activities.
In a statement issued by the party’s State Working Committee, the suspension takes immediate effect, with the matter referred to the PDP Disciplinary Committee for further investigation.
The development follows a controversial parallel congress conducted by the Wike-aligned faction in Plateau, which earlier been rejected by the officially recognized state leadership led by Raymond Dabo.
The crisis highlights ongoing divisions within the PDP, as rival factions battle for control of party structures ahead of upcoming political activities, including the party’s national convention.
