Jos — The Plateau State Police Command has arrested some female students accused of assaulting another female students in a video that has gone viral on social media.
The incident reportedly occurred in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State and involved students of the Federal University of Education, Pankshin.
The police command’s spokesperson, SP Alfred Alabo, said on Friday that Commissioner of Police Ayodeji Faniyan ordered the immediate investigation and arrest of those involved after becoming aware of the video.
Alabo said the arrested students would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department after preliminary investigations and would subsequently be charged to court if the investigation establishes their involvement.
The police condemned the alleged attack, warning that taking the law into one’s hand’s constitutes criminal offence
The command also cautioned against recording and uploading violent acts on social media, noting that such actions could expose perpetrators to additional charges, including cybercrime-related offences.
“In the process of committing this crime, sometimes you will commit several other crimes.
“It is not just you beating somebody or meeting violence against your fellow human being, even having the mind to record it is cybercrime”, Alabo said.
The police appealed to students and other members of the public to report grievances to the appropriate authorities rather than resorting to violence or jungle justice.
