The Imo State House of Assembly IMHA Owerri has fixed a new date for the resumption of year 2026 plenary as communicated by the House. The newly fixed date has cancelled the already scheduled resumption date of 10th February earlier announced by the speaker at a plenary session held in IMHA December 2025.
A new date 5th March, 2026 has been fixed to create enabling space for the legislators to assimilate the expected process of legislation inline with the order of the business of the day as gazetted.
February 10th was announced by the speaker, RT Hon Chike Olemgbe at the closure of plenary session in December, 2025 after the 10th House recorded more than the required number of days and number of motions and bills passed for the year 2025.
Recall that the Imo State House of Assembly under the speakership of Chike Olemgbe has recorded humongous Legislative success. The successful journey so far wouldn’t have been achieved without the Legislative coordination of the principal officers of the tenth house.
Some key principal officers of the Assembly including Deputy Speaker Rt Hon Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu, Back-to-Back Majority Leader Chief Kanayo Onyemaechi (Egbe ), Chief Whip Chigozie Nwaneri, Minority Leader Princewill Ugochukwu and others were instrumental to the legislative excellence.
Imolites are expecting more robust achievements by the Legislative arm (IMHA) of government in Imo State , at least to push up speed to effect the number of bills passed into law through its immediate enforcement, workability and due sustenance to improve the State.
Similarly, as the law making arm of government, it is expected of IMHA to bring to the notice of the Governor of the State, His Excellency Hope Uzodinma CON, the importance of speedy completion of several signature projects scattered across the state which included, the completion of orashi sea Port dredging, ohaji generation and distribution plant, immediate completion of Nworie Beach resort, massive road project completion and stability of the smooth transition of Imo Governorship seat to Owerri zone, to synchronise the charter of equity. Such remaining projects will stand the rest of time bearing Governor Uzodinma.
Nonetheless, IMHA is expected to invite or to recall any public office holder, ministry, parastatal and agency found guilty in the negligence or non- efficient discharge of official function as deemed by law.
Achieving this feat towards the finishing touches of the 10th Assembly Legislative calendar could be cumbersome but the Shared Prosperity Administration can decipher proper governance than ever had, by the ability of creme of sound minds in the 10th House/Assembly.
As 5th March tickles up, normal activities have resumed in the assembly complex, by the House of Assembly workers accordingly while the 2026 plenary resumption date is shifted for March.
