The Nigeria Police Force has announced the commencement of promotion examinations for senior police officers seeking advancement to higher ranks, with the exercise scheduled for 28–30 September 2026.
The examination will include officers seeking promotion from Superintendent of Police (SP) to Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), according to information released by the police authorities. Reports also indicate that the exercise will cover other eligible senior officers seeking promotion.
The examinations are expected to be conducted at state police commands and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command as part of the process for determining officers eligible for promotion.
The authorities have urged eligible officers to prepare adequately for the examination and approach the exercise with seriousness and professionalism.
For officers seeking promotion from SP to CSP, the exercise marks an important stage in their career progression, as the CSP rank is higher than that of Superintendent of Police in the established hierarchy of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Police Service Commission (PSC), which is responsible for promotions within the senior ranks of the Force, has previously emphasised that promotion is subject to established requirements and available vacancies.
Eligible officers are therefore expected to make the necessary preparations ahead of the three-day examination, scheduled for Monday, 28 September, through Wednesday, 30 September 2026.
