Imo State Police Command has arrested 15 students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, for allegedly leading the protest which engulfed the university.

The undergraduates had on Friday protested the proposed increase in their tuition and course registration fees, among others, by the school management.

Some of the school buildings, including the Information and Computer Technology centre, were reportedly attacked by the protesting students

Speaking to our correspondent on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Andrew Enwerem, said 15 students were arrested by the operatives of the command for alleged involvement in criminal activities during the protest.

He said, “I can confirm to you that about 15 students have been arrested in connection with attacks and looting of the Senate building, the ICT centre where computers and other information gadgets were stolen, as well as the attack on a bank on the campus.
