Jos: Plateau State Police Command has arrested a suspect believed to be the mastermind of the deadly attack on Bin-Per community in Mangu Local Government Area of the state.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday in Kombun District and reportedly left 25 people dead and four others injured.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the Plateau State Command, SP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the arrest on Wednesday, saying the suspect is currently in custody and investigations into the incident are ongoing. Security operatives have also launched a manhunt for other attackers who fled the scene.
Residents said the heavily armed attackers moved from house to house, forcing their way into homes and attacking residents who were asleep.
The killings has triggered widespread outrage in Mangu, and prompted women in the community to stage a peaceful protest, during which they demanded stronger security and an end to recurring attacks.
The victims have since been given a mass burial. According to the police, investigations into the incident are ongoing while security operatives have launched a manhunt for other suspected attackers
Police have also urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist in apprehending the fleeing suspects and preventing further attacks.
