A disturbing incident of police harassment unfolded near the TASUED school gate in Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, on October 15, 2025, at approximately 11:00 PM. A couple, returning from work, was allegedly accosted by a police patrol team without justification.
According to eyewitnesses, the officers double-crossed the couple’s vehicle and began questioning them. Despite the couple’s calm demeanor and explanation that they were heading home after closing their shop, the officers allegedly became aggressive and started harassing the husband.
In a desperate bid for help, the wife, who suffers from asthma, rushed to a nearby Celestial Church holding a concert. The worshippers followed her back to the scene, but the situation quickly escalated. The wife suffered a severe asthma attack and collapsed, while the officers reportedly ignored her condition.
When the husband attempted to record the altercation, the officers tried to seize his phone, prompting him to flee in fear. Unfortunately, he unintentionally took his wife’s inhaler with him, exacerbating the situation.
As the crowd grew, one officer fired a shot to disperse the onlookers, and the police subsequently fled the scene. Thankfully, a church member managed to borrow an inhaler and administered it to the unconscious woman. She was rushed to the TASUED Medical Centre, where she received treatment.
Video evidence captured during the incident has been attached to this report, revealing the disturbing sequence of events.
This incident raises serious concerns about police brutality and the need for accountability. The authorities must take immediate action to address this egregious behavior and ensure that citizens are protected from such abuse of power.
