Police nabs fraudsters in Enugu, recovers 30 sim cards

Two notorious suspects who specialise in using victims SIM card to access their bank details and wreak havoc on their bank account by siphoning victims monies have been arrested by operatives of the Enugu state police command.

They were nabbed through a well gathered and coordinated intelligence information. In a statement signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), AP Ebere Amaraizu,  gave their names as Ogbu Emmanuel Abuchi (20 years) from Ndiagu Akpugo in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu and Mba Christian,(21 years)from Amechi Idodo in Nkanu East Local Government Area of state were nabbed in the early hours of today 18/5/18 through information by the public.

Recovered from the suspects include 30 SIM cards of different telecommunication networks belonging to yet to be identified victims. According to the statement, it was gathered from the suspects that they were divided into three groups and that one of the groups is to steal phone and take away their SIM cards and bring to Mba Christian to access the BVN and other Bank details of their victim.

While Ogbu Emmanuel Abuchi is to generate the pin code of victims through the information gathered through their SIM cards and that such generated information and passed to Mba Christian who will on the spot start accessing victims account and siphoning monies from the said account.

“They have wreaked havoc to many through their stolen SIM cards including the latest one of a victim that they recently transferred the sum of one hundred and fifty thousand Naira from the two hundred and fifty thousand Naira that they saw in his account when they gained access.

“Suspect Ogbu Emmanuel Abuchi on his part pleaded for forgiveness and blamed the situation to peer groups who influence him and inability of his parents to train him as he allegedly dropped out from secondary school in SS3.

“Suspect Mba Christian blamed the situation on satanic influence pointing out that he has cyber cafe before and was doing well until he was duped and that this led to his selling of some properties.

“Meanwhile, full-scale investigations have commenced into the incident as suspects are now helping the police operatives in their findings.”

The state command advised members of the public to be of security conscious with whom they leave their phones to ensure that their SIM cards are not accessed to avoid falling victim to the antics of mischief makers.
