The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of popular political commentator Ibrahim Khalil in Gaida area of Kumbotso Local Area.
Danshagamu was reportedly attacked at his residence late Monday night after unknown assailants allegedly forced their way into his home at about 11:30p.m.
Police said officers from Kumbotso Division responded to a distress call and rushed the commentator to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where he was confirmed dead.
The killing has triggered concern among opposition politicians, rights advocates and residents, with calls for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Amnesty International Nigeria condemned the killing, stressing that critics and outspoken individuals should be protected rather than targeted in a democratic society.
The police said the two suspects were arrested following an intelligence-driven operation involving the Kumbotso Divisional Police Officer, tactical units and community stakeholders.
The suspects are currently being interrogated, while investigators are obtaining statement from relevant persons and conducting forensic procedures to determine the circumstances and motive behind the attack.
Police authorities said efforts have been instensified to identify and arrest anyone else connected to the killing.
The police said the suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation.
