President Muhammadu Buhari has mourned the death of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Ufot Ekaette. Mr Ekaette, who was 80 years old, was once a deputy governor of Akwa Ibom state in the era of military regime in Nigeria.
In a message from the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Thursday, President Buhari said the deceased “dedicated himself to duty in the course of his distinguished public service
The statement went further to say that Ufot Ekaette was “a gentleman who gave his best in the service of his country”.
“The late Ekaette would always be remembered not only for his remarkable public service record, but also because of his immense contributions towards bringing peace in the once-troubled Niger Delta region,”
“His demise comes at a time when voices like his own are needed to move Nigeria forward in the face of daunting challenges.
“His contributions would never be in vain as the country would always appreciate and remember his great contributions,” President Buhari said.
The Presidency also condoled with the Ekaette family, the government and people of Akwa Ibom over the death, and assured them that the deceased would always be remembered for his remarkable public service record and immense contributions towards bringing peace in the once troubled Niger Delta region of the country.
