The Nigeria’s foremost private refinery, Dangote Oil refinery will be commissioned Monday 22-05-2023 by the number one citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Mohammadu Buhari GCFR.

The Dangote Oil Refinery which will be commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari tomorrow Monday, is expected to meet 100 per cent of Nigeria’s GDP having 650,000 barrels per day (BPD).

The refinery is located in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, covering a land area of approximately 2,635 hectares.

However, the refinery is powered by a 435-megawatt (MW) power plant, rated as the world’s largest single train with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day with a 900 KTPA Polypropylene plant.

The event will be held in lagos state Nigeria while notable personalities in the oil industry will be in attendance.

9News Nigeria reports that at full capacity, the refinery can meet 100% of the Nigerian requirement of all refined products and also have surplus for exports.5. Designed for 100% Nigerian crude with flexibility to process other crudes.

It has self-sufficient marine facility with ability for freight optimization. Largest single order of 5 single-point mooring (SPMs) anywhere in the world.Diesel and gasoline from the refinery will conform to Euro V specifications as gathered.

In furtherance, Dangote refinery design complies with World Bank, US EPA, European emission norms and Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) emission/effluent norms and incorporates state-of-the-art technology.

It is designed to process large variety of crudes, including many of the African crudes, some of the middle eastern crudes and the US Light Tight Oil at 65 million cubic meters of sand dredged, costing approximately €300 million, using the world’s largest dredgers.

Meanwhile, Aliko Dangote bought over 1,200 units of various equipment to enhance the local capacity for site works. Bought 332 cranes to build up equipment installation capacity. He also built the world’s largest granite quarry to supply coarse aggregate, stone column material, stone base, stone dust and material for breakwater (10 million tons per year production capacity).

He developed a port and constructed two quays with a load bearing capacity of 25 tons/square meter to bring over dimensional cargoes close to the site directly. He also constructed two more quays in the port with a capacity to handle up to Panamax vessels to export, two quays to handle liquid cargoes. The port will have six quays, including a roll on/roll off quay.

In the course of the civil works, 700 piles were drilled on some with total number of piles up to 250,000. It has 177 tanks of up 4.742 billion liters capacity.

Report has it that Dangote is one of the few companies in e- world executing a Petroleum refinery & a Petrochemical complex directly as an Engineering, Procurement and Construction(EPC) contractor

In addition Dangote has trained about 900 young engineers in refinery operations abroad. Mechanical Engineers trained in the GE University in Italy. Process Engineers trained by Honeywell/Universal Oil Products (UOP) for six months.

The above is a proof of Dangote’s capacity in business and human empowerment in Nigeria and therefore have to be commended.

Tomorrow Monday will be another great day for Nigerians on the occasion of the official commissioning of the first private refinery in Nigeria owned by Aliko Dangote.

Dangote is the founder and current chairman and CEO of Dangote group which is the largest industrial conglomerate in West Africa.

Aliko Dangote is famous to be Africa’s richest person, richest black person and the 64th richest person in the world, Was born in Kano, Kano Nigeria, in 1957. Dangote’s mother is Mariya Sanusi Dantata, the daughter of business mogul Sanusi Dantata.

Dangote’s father Mohammed Dangote was also business mogul and entrepreneur, associated with Sanusi Dantata who is the father of Mariya Dantata as reported.

The Dangote Group was established as a small trading firm in 1977, the same year Dangote relocated to Lagos to expand the company, Dangote received a $500,000 loan from his uncle to begin trading in commodities including bagged cement as well as agricultural goods like rice and sugar.

In the 1990s, he approached the Central Bank of Nigeria with the idea that it would be cheaper for the bank to allow his transport company to manage their fleet of staff buses, a proposal that was also approved.

Dangote Group is one of the largest conglomerates in Africa, with international operations in Benin, Ghana, Zambia and Togo. The Dangote Group has moved from being a trading company to be the largest industrial group in Nigeria, encompassing divisions like Dangote Sugar Refinery, Dangote Cement, and Dangote Flour and Dangote Pasta.

Dangote Group dominates the sugar market in Nigeria, with its refinery business is the main supplier (70 percent of the market) to the country’s soft drink companies, breweries and confectioners. The company employs more than 11,000 people in West Africa.

Dangote diversified in various businesses ranging from, cement, noddles, sugar, vehicle plants, oil and gas and etcetera flanked in various countries of the world.

At this instance, there are still opposing reactions against the commissioning by President Buhari who’s remaining days in office is limited. But the plans to commission the refinery will be a booster for the springing of more refineries in Nigeria, 9News Nigeria reports.
