President Tinubu has approved the immediate release of 102,000 metric tonnes of rice and maize from the National Strategic Food Reserves to enhance the availability of food in the country.

Hon. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, informed journalists at the State House after a meeting of the Special Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Intervention on Thursday, 8th February.

The Minister also explained that the government was ready to import any deficiencies that may arise after the distribution of the food items to shore up supplies.

The Minister also warned that the government will take necessary actions against individuals found stockpiling food items, while emphasizing that during emergencies, it is necessary to implement immediate actions to guarantee availability of foods to Nigerians.
