The foremost Presidential Hotel in the then Eastern Nigerian regional base, Enugu has resonated after several years of being forgotten, neglected and abandoned by serial governments that came and gone in the State.
It was during the time of Senator Chimaroke Nnamani as Governor of Enugu state that saw the last life of the five Star hotel. However, Fmr Governor Sullivan tried reviving the hotel but it was set to complete comatose after his reign.
Presidential Hotel Enugu use to be a significant edifice in the South East region but the way and manner it was rejected and abandoned by government was a heartbreak to the entire South Easterners resident in the state.
Similarly, Imo Concorde Hotel Owerri use to be the heart of commerce in the state but was also abandoned to comatose till the recent resurrection back to back by the Hope Uzodinma’s shared prosperity administration.
Administrations before the shared prosperity in the same manner abandoned the five Star concorde hotel Owerri for lack of proper management and maintenance. Imolites ar happy to witness its come back by Governor Uzodinma’s effort as work is seriously going on in the hotel at the time of filling this report by 9News Nigeria.
Concorde Hotel Owerri alongside Presidential Hotel Enugu are previous edifices that should not be toiled or tempered for the sake of business and commercial boost. Both Governors of Imo and Enugu under President Tinubu’s administration shall ever be remembered for the renovation done to both hotel in respective states.
Thursday, the Enugu State Governor Mbah had the honour of unveiling the reconstructed Hotel Presidential, a landmark built 62 years ago under the visionary leadership of Dr. Michael Okpara as a symbol of our resilience, elegance, and enterprise.
Information has it that for about 15 years, this glorious edifice stood in ruin, it was an affront to the pride of the state.
Speaking at the opening, Governor Mba hinted that then his administration came into office, he made a strong pledge to recover what belongs to Enugu people, to convert dormant assets into productive assets, and to turn liabilities into engines of growth.
That is why this unveiling is more than opening the doors of a hotel; it is the reopening of Enugu’s confidence. It is a tangible sign that when we say Enugu is open for business, we mean business., the Governor maintained.
“The standards we insisted on for this revamp are truly world-class, because when Enugu says “welcome” to its investors, our hospitality infrastructure must speak with the same credibility as our policies.
“Together with the International Conference Centre, the 345-room ICC Hotel under construction, and Enugu Air, this project positions Enugu as the Conferencing Capital of Africa and a hub for tourism, investment, and opportunity.
“I thank Amber Hospitality for believing in Enugu’s potential and bringing on board their enviable pedigree earned through the management of about 12 successful brands in the hospitality sector.
“I also commend Dilworth, our contractors, for their attention to detail, as well as the Commissioners of Works and Infrastructure and of Culture and Tourism who worked to realise this project.
This is not just about a hotel. It is about confidence, jobs, pride, and the spirit of a people who know that tomorrow is here, Enugu State Governor shocks the opposition. It is commendable to note that hospitality industry helps in the economic boost of the state. It is also important to charge state Governors to revive and bring to life every moribund industry and production firms across the regions.
By so doing, the likes of textile factories, ceramics industries, agro farms, Shoe industries, motor assembly factories, manufacturing and entrepreneurial facilities, small scale businesses including recycling industries will resurface to boost economic hub, employment and service delivery across the regions, as 9News Nigeria business research team led by Amb Princely Onyenwe reports.
