A crowd of Pro-Nasir el-Rufai protesters on Wednesday stormed the National Headquarters of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Abuja, demanding the removal of the party national secretary, Dr. Olu Agunloye.
The protesters were holding placards accused Agunloye of mismanaging the party and called him to either clear his name regarding the fraud case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC or resign.
Some of the placards reads; Dr Agunloye face your EFCC cases and stop embarrassing SDP! Don’t destroy SDP! Dr. Agunloye’s EFCC case is destroying SDP, Resign now and give us a chance, and see SDP legacy! Dr. Agunloye must resign immediately! We demand change and better future! Clear your name or resign!
Agunloye, a former Minister of Power and Steel under Olusegun Obasanjo regime, is currently facing trial by the anti-graft agency over allegations of fraudulent contract awards and official corruption.
Nasir el–Rufai, who officially resign from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, on Monday and announced his move to the Social Democratic Party, SDP, has also directed his political allies and supporters to join him in the new party.
