Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a young welder by name Ekike Hector David of Mbiokporo In Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of the State.
David specializes in the production of locally fabricated AK47 rifles, pump action, pistol and Dane guns.
According to Akwa Ibom state police public relation Mr. Odiko MacDon, the suspect is a welder who specializes in making and selling locally made rifles and all types of guns to criminals.
The arrest of the locally made armunition fabricator instead of being condemned by member of the public rather attracted sympathy with several hundred begging the Federal, Government to take advantage of his talent in armory fabrication to establish an ammunition factory in Nigeria.
The news of David’s arrest went viral when “Sittippe ke Akwa Ibom and “Ibom Trend” both local gist social media platforms published it in their respective Facebook pages
As those arrested for criminal tendencies are usually jailed by the court of public opinion, Ekike Hector David’s case was different as almost all who commented on the post are appealing to the Federal Government to develop his talent and establish an ammunition factory thereon.
Some of the comments on Sittippe ke Akwa Ibom and Ibom Trend post about David’s arrest read:
Edet Uduak: “Macdon na this one u go see arrest
It’s better for u people to work on this guy o, see great talent o”
Itohowo Thomas: “If it’s a well modernized country now they would have employ you my dear asap
But I know Nigeria they’ll use criminal name eliminate you
Wicked people that can’t detect talent when they see one.
If you were actually selling your goods to criminals im not in support of
But for this dude to be able to weld this stuffs you are a gem, just that the energy should be channelled in the right direction
People that are building nuclear weapons are they criminals too?
These things should be made incase of emergency”.
Dickson Spencer: “He uses local facilities under confinement to manufacture these and we’ve been spending Nigeria’s fortune to buy arms.
Nigeria is sick.
Why not develop this guy”.
David Udo: “Police should look into this matter very well, and should train and retrain the young man for effective production”.
Michael Owoteben: “Recruit him into armory school. Tap his talent”.
Itoobong Elijah: “They should employ him”.
Kufre Akpanamsi: “He is talented, he should not be wasted.
Despite the public outcry begging for the release of David and tapping into his well of experience and knowledge in armory fabrication, the creative youth is still cooling his feet at “A” Division of Akwa Ibom State Police Station at Willington Bassey Way, Uyo.
