As the raining season begins in some parts of Plateau, over 60 houses and shops were destroyed by heavy rainstorms in several communities in Jos on Saturday evening.
In Jos South Local Government Area, the resident said the rainstorms started on Saturday evening, lasted for about four hours, and was accompanied by heavy windstorm that blew off the rooftops of several homes and rendered many families homeless.
One of the residents in the local government area, who resides in Abbattoir area of Jos South, Timothy Pam, told 9News Nigeria correspondent in Jos on Monday that the incident had thrown residents of the affected commuinities into confusion and panic as most of them are stranded since last Saturday’s havoc.
He also said several homes were destroyed in Gwarandok and Angulu Jos area.
Pam said “We were at the farmland when the windstorm started, this recent downpour has caused devastating effect on residents as the storm removed the roofs of the buildings and the rainstorms came without notice as there was no signs of rain, it really took everyone by surprised.
Agwom Izang, a resident of Zarmaganda area of Jos South also said “The downpour came with heavy wind that lasted for hours and left so much destruction in its trail, our roofs were blown off by heavy windstorms and some of our property destroyed as a result of the rain. We are just here by God’s mercy.”
