The Kano State Hisbah Board has introduced new regulations for commercial motorcycle operators in Kano, baning the use of three-quarter trousers and other practices it considers inappropriate during the holy month of Ramadan.
The directive, according to the Board, is part of efforts to uphold moral standards and maintain the spiritual atmosphere associated with Ramadan.
Key directive under the new guidelines: *Tricycle operators are prohibited from wearing three-quarter trousers or outfits deemed incident
*Playing loud and disruptive music while transporting passengers is prohibited.
*The use of modified exhaust pipes, commonly known as “knockouts has been banned.
*Display of explicit stickers or posters on tricycles is forbidden.
*Unrelated men and women are restricted from sitting in close proximity inside the tricycles.
Enforcement:
The Board stated that monitoring teams will be deployed across the state to ensure compliance, warning that violators may face arrest and legal action.
The holy Ramadan is observed by Muslim as a sacred period of fasting, prayer and reflection, and authorities say the measures are intended to promote modesty and public decorum throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
