REFLECTIONS OF PALM SUNDAY AND EASTER DAY BLESSINGS; A REALITY

Palm Sunday

BY PRINCELY ONYENWE, IMO

In the season that brought about the resurrection power, there are doubts though by the unbelievers of the gospel of Jesus Christ that Jesus is Lord.

Jesus came in the likes of men to perform wondrous work on earth as God directs by the inspiration and revelation of the prophets.

It is therefore proven beyond the scientific revolution and postulations that Jesus came, died in the flesh of mankind and resurrected on the third day and ascended into Heaven.

There is also assurance that Jesus will come again as the scripture has posited.

Therefore that Jesus Christ was celebrated as a King, envy of the rulers brought Jesus to death and God made Jesus resurrect from the grave on the 3rd day is a prove to the entire creation that God is real.

Palm Sunday invites us to pass from anguish to hope, from fear to self-sacrifice.

This, step by step we advance towards the truth of Easter.

In these trying days, we become aware, sorrowfully, of our limitations and fragility.

However, let there be no doubt: what Jesus said yesterday to Saint Paul,

He says today to all of us:

“My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.”

Pause🙏

After a moment of silence, all rise and make the Sign of the Cross, saying:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Hossana in the highest, blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord
Hossana in the highest, blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord

BLESSING OF THE PALMS🙏

Take in hand the branches you have prepared (or their substitute), and raise them up, waving them and singing the Sanctus to a familiar melody, in English or Latin.

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus Dóminus Deus Sábaoth.
Pleni sunt caeli et terra glória tua.
Hosánna in excélsis.
Benedíctus qui venit in nómine Dómini.
Hosánna in excélsis.

Still holding the branches, hold them out in front of you. The leader of the prayer, with hands joined, says the prayer of blessing.

Increase the faith of those who place their hope in you, O God, and graciously hear the prayers of those who call on you, that we, who today hold high these branches to hail Christ in his triumph, may bear fruit for you by good works accomplished in him. Who lives and reigns forever and ever.
AMEN.

GOSPEL🙏

The Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew (21:1-11)

When Jesus and the disciples drew near Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find an ass tethered, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them here to me. And if anyone should say anything to you, reply, ‘The master has need of them.’ Then he will send them at once.”

This happened so that what had been spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled:

Say to daughter Zion, “Behold, your king comes to you, meek and riding on an ass, and on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.”

The disciples went and did as Jesus had ordered them. They brought the ass and the colt and laid their cloaks over them, and he sat upon them.

The very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and strewed them on the road. The crowds preceding him and those following kept crying out and saying:

“Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is the he who comes in the name of the Lord; hosanna in the highest.”

And when he entered Jerusalem the whole city was shaken and asked, “Who is this?”

And the crowds replied, “This is Jesus the prophet, from Nazareth in Galilee.”

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

Thank You Oh Lord for saving our souls unto glory IJN. Amen

Happy Season of reflection.
