No fewer than 1,000 indigent students from Nasarawa State have received scholarship support of N100,000 each from Nalaraba Educational Foundation
Speaking during the symbolic presentation of the cheque on Saturday in Lafia, Alh. Abubakar Nalaraba, representing Awe, Doma and Keana Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, said it was his contribution to support indigent students in the state.
Nalaraba said that the scholarship would make a positive impact by supporting the educational pursuits of the underprivileged children.
He said that the foundation decided to increase the number of beneficiaries as well as funds given due to the present economic hardship facing most parents in the country.
Rep. Nalaraba said, “Nalaraba Educational Foundation is a foundation that has been in existence since 2019 and such programme has been taking place from 2019 to date.
“In 2023, we supported 300 students with N50,000 each, but today we are here to disburse N100,000 each to 1,000 students across Nasarawa State.
“We take statistics and make our own research, we found out that at least a tuition in the state University and every other University at the time we made this decision is not above N100,000
“We have now arrived at this amount, if we truly want to make a positive impact by supporting the children of the underprivileged, we should take care of their tuition fee of N100,000 to remove such burden for at least an academic session,”.
Nalaraba assured that the foundation will sustain the scholarship awards and other empowerment programmes to improve lives especially that of his constituents.
In his remarks, the Aren Eggon, Justice Ahmed Ubangari commended the lawmaker for the gesture and charged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the scholarship.
Earlier, Prof. Amirikpa Oyigbenu, Chairman, Nalaraba 2025 Scholarship Grants, said that the selection of the beneficiaries was carefully done by a committee and stakeholders in various wards across the three Senatorial Districts.
Abimiku David and Bushrat Safianu both beneficiaries, expressed gratitude for the scholarship, noting that the gesture would go a long way in supporting their educational pursuit.
