Another ridiculous attack by Imo landlords is shaking off the pride and beauty of the state with the undue imposition of high rents on houses and business premises in Owerri and its suburb areas.

Tenants in Imo state NIGERIA have therefore decried high rents imposed by landlords on both residential and business premises whereby causing hard times on occupants and possibly making them to flew Owerri to a low-cost area within the hinterlands.

The worst is that at such hinterlands and neighbouring towns, landlords have continued to apply such high tariffs and rents on occupants at the detriment of their welfare.

9News Nigeria in Owerri went round to ascertain this ugly Development in Owerri which has kept many houses empty without occupants.

In Owerri municipality, for instance, a two-bedroom flat goes for 600 to 800 thousand Naira with a forceful condition to pay for 2years.

In some areas like World Bank, a two-bedroom flat goes for 1.2m and 950 thousand per anum having the same tag on two years payment.

Knowing the state at which business owners are managing to stabilize and tenants are made up of a majority of civil servants, still, landlords are making the situation worst by undue increments.

However there is this problem in imo State, in Owerri to be precise, the high amount of rent collection in Owerri is getting out of hand.

AREAS like Nekede Polytechnic have joined this ugly trend to increase rents on regular basis both on houses and business premises without recourse to the level of income in the state.

Though imo is developing, it is just of recent that estates and huge business owners are establishing and with this high price of rents on tenants, the state will crumble again.

The majority of the affected TENANTS in Owerri, imo state are worried over this ugly development and calling on GOVERNOR Hope Uzodinma to address this upheaval before people will completely run out of Owerri the capital city.

However, the tenants in Owerri are asking if there is no rent amendment bill in imo state?

According to them, ‘Imo has no industry, no job opportunities but still, they pay higher than Abia, an industrialized state.

”Market, places like Naze, pays 360k per annum, some pay 600k per annum, on a 2 bedroom flat, I know what I’m saying is confirmable and verifiable”

This is why I called for an investigation on the possible cause of people fleeing Owerri for high rents”

It is confirmable to report that most families have been chased out of their rented flats because of not meeting up the high House rent.

I feel this house rent catastrophe should have a regulation bill to make Imo a better place to live and establish the business as well as train our children than to run away for high rents.

For instance, in Naze 2bedroom flats are fixed 360k per annum, and above, you can even get at the high level of 600 thousand Naira, even in other parts of Owerri like Irete, Orji, Amakohia, Nekede.

These undue high rents if not checked and regulated will do more harm than good to Imo state whose Government under Senator Hope Uzodinma is poised to develop.
