President Bola Tinubu has met with Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas (Rtd.), the newly appointed sole administrator of the state.
Ibas arrived at the Presidential Villa in Abuja at exactly 12:48 p.m. on Wednesday for the meeting with Tinubu.
On Tuesday, Tinubu announced emergency rule in Rivers State, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the State House of Assembly for six months. In a nationwide address, the president cited prolonged political instability, constitutional violations, and security threats as reasons for the drastic decision.
The crisis in Rivers State has been fueled by a bitter power struggle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
As part of the emergency measures, Tinubu appointed Ibas to take full control of the state’s administration until stability is restored.
