Zubairu Bello, a security guard at the private residence of the House Leader of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Garba Bello, has been shot dead by suspected armed robbers.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Sokoto State Police Command, ASP El-Mustapha Sani, told our correspondent that Bello was shot dead by the robbers when they stormed the lawmaker’s house on Sama Road at about 3am on Sunday.
The police spokesman also said the robbers shot the guard after he told them that his boss was not around, thereby making their efforts to gain entrance into the house through the roof futile.
“They later fled when some policemen arrived at the scene after the house leader made a distress call.
“None of them could, however, be arrested as they fled immediately they heard the gunshots from policemen deployed in the area,” the PPRO added.
He said the hoodlums’ operation was not successful, as they were unable to steal any money or cart away property from the house
“The deceased, who had been buried according to Islamic rites, was confirmed dead at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto,” the police spokesman said.
