A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kassim Afegbua, has called for the sacking of the party’s national chairman, Uche Secondus, warning that failure to do so could have dire consequences for the opposition party.

Afegbua, who described the Secondus-led National Working Committee of the PDP as “confused” and “intellectually hollow”, said the party was being decimated and stripped naked due to what he described as “tactlessness” of the current PDP NWC.

The Edo born politician urged the board of trustees and founders of the PDP to come to the party’s rescue before it “explodes” under Secondus’ watch.

Afegbua made the call against the backdrop of the gale of defections and other challenges currently rocking the PDP.

The call particularly came amidst rumours that Zamfara State Governor, Bello Mutawalle, had become the latest PDP governor to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after Governors Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State and Ben Ayade of Cross River State had moved to the ruling party in the last few months.

Afegbua feared that the PDP may crumble in no distant time should Secondus be allowed to continue to steer its ship.

“The events of the last one month and the continuing defection of major PDP stakeholders to the ruling All Progressives’ Congress (APC), is a further testimony to the leadership tactlessness and spinelessness of the Secondus-led NWC of the party,” he said in a personally signed statement sent THE WHISTLER on Sunday.

“It should be of urgent concern to all stakeholders and organs of the party, including the Governors’ Forum, to arrest this obvious drift which has left our dear party naked before Nigerians, home and abroad.

“There is a more compelling need to urgently call for a stakeholders meeting to mitigate, amongst other things, this obvious decimation of the PDP by a leadership that is utterly bereft of ideas, confused, intellectually hollow, phlegmatic and absentminded in the affairs of the nation and the party.”

Afegbua said the PDP should ordinarily be gaining ground due to “the leadership failures of the ruling APC,” but said that the opposition party was instead “losing some of her best hands across the nation, and losing the much needed momentum.”

His statement further reads: “When we thought Lagos state PDP was looking good, court judgment uprooted a forward looking leadership that ought to have added impetus to the party in the state. When we thought we could gain mileage in Anambra, greed and avarice have combined to ridicule the party in the state, producing two factions within 24hours to undermine a clear opportunity to win back the state.
