Dr Chris Asoluka have just passed on this Saturday morning after passing through a lengthy period of stroke.
9News Nigeria learnt, his death was a cold stroke and a devastating moment to the entire Imolites who in one way or the other identified with Dr Chris Asoluka in his life time.
Dr Chris Asoluka reportedly passed away this morning in Owerri after suffering a second stroke as 9News reports.
Meanwhile, the schedule of his burial announcement will be made public by his immediate family as gathered.
Before his death, Dr Chris Asoluka Okwuruoha was a renowned Nigerian development and public policy strategist, politician, and scholar who passed away on May 9, 2025, at the age of 70. He held various notable positions, including.
He was member of the House of Representatives where he represented his constituency from 1992 to 1993 and served as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations.
He also served as Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development*: Served in Imo State from 1994 to 1996 and was Chairman of the Committee of Finance Commissioners in Nigeria.
In addition, late Asoluka served as President of Aka Ikenga: A prominent Igbo socio-cultural organization, where he played a key role in promoting unity among Ndigbo in various states.
Also, he served as Chairman, Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA) where he Transformed the Onne Oil and Gas Free Zone into one of Africa’s largest and most productive free trade zones.
As a Policy Advisor and Consultant , Late Chris Asoluka Worked with government agencies, National Assembly committees, and international organizations, providing expertise on policy analysis, finance, and economic development.
Dr. Asoluka was also a prolific writer and published several books on transportation, maritime policy, and economic development. He received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to public service, economic reform, and industrial policy.
Some of his notable achievements include, Maritime and Industrial Reforms where he Played a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s maritime sector and industrial policies.
On his official duty in the Economic Development, the late sage, Contributed to the development of Imo State’s Local Economic Empowerment Development Strategy (LEEDS) and the Nigerian Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (NEITI).
In leadership and Mentorship, late Chris Inspired and mentored many young professionals and leaders in Nigeria.
Dr. Asoluka’s legacy is marked by his commitment to service, integrity, and excellence. Recall that he hails from Ihiagwa in Owerri West local government Area, where he played several roles in both community and humanity uplifting as gathered by Princely Onyenwe of 9News.
