Alhaji Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, President of Nigeria Senate has been conferred the traditional title of Aare Akerewolu Iyin-Ekiti.
Lawan who was crowded in fanfare and jamboree by the Oluyin of Iyin-Ekiti, Oba Adebola Adeniyi Ajakaiye on Saturday said the conferment of the title on him was to demonstrate the much needed unity expected of all in the country.
Expressing gratitude on the honour done him, Senator Lawan took to his official Facebook page monitored by 9News Nigeria and appealed for togetherness in the country on this tone:
“On behalf of myself, my family and people of Yobe North Senatorial District that I represent and the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and indeed the entire National Assembly, I thank them most sincerely for the honour done to me”.
“What his Royal Highness, Oba Adebola Adeniyi Ajakaiye has done is a demonstration of the much needed unity we need in the country. By given recognition to an Ahmad from Yobe State, he has demonstrated the vision of our founding fathers”.
“Our founding fathers came from different ethnic background, different religious persuasions and yet they had vision that Nigeria, with all the diversities, can be made into a great country, to be the greatest in Africa and occupy enviable position in the international polity and they worked hard to achieve that.
Therefore, political leaders in Nigeria must all come together to solve the challenges facing the country, because no part of the country could on it’s own solve a problem that had engulfed all parts of the country”.
“I want to say that today’s challenges are surmountable challenges. All we need is to come together as a people, face the challenges no matter how difficult they may appear.
Once we are united, we are resolved, we can deal with these challenges, most of them if not all of them, and continue the march to making Nigeria a success, a great country, like our founding fathers envisioned”.
