Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has sponsored a bill seeking the establishment and management of ranches across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas and the Federal Capital Territory.
He said the bill, currently before the Senate, aims to curb open crazing, modernize livestock farming, and enhance food security nationwide.
Speaking in Abuja on Monday, August 18, 2025, Nwoko explained that the proposed legislation would provide a robust legal framework for ranching and create Ranch Management and Development Agency to oversee regulation, compliance, and dispute resolution.
Senator Nwoko added that the initiative would also promote pubic private partnerships, ensure environmental sustainability, and protect land rights under the Land Use Act.
Nwoko, who is the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparations band Repatriation, stressed that the bill would help reduce farmer-herder conflicts, generate employment, and boost Nigeria’s agricultural economy.
He urged the Federal , State, and Local Governments to cooperate in its implementation for benefit of all citizens.
