The public is in total jeopardy and frenzy at a motion moved by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu concerning constant consumption and smoking of hard drugs particularly marijuana by Air plane Pilots while on official duty boarding passengers at risk.
Senator Orji reeled out his encounter with some Nigerian pilots who engaged themselves in smoking of marijuana unreadiness to fly the Air plane carrying number of innocent passengers onboard.
The senator noted with dismay , the regular air accidents and skidding of air crafts from the runway as a result of non-check on Air pilots by the aviation ministry, NCA, NEMA and other related authorities.
Senator said, he runs an Air plane business popularly known as…and had known some pilots and cabin staff that regularly smoke Indian Hemp (marijuana) before resuming work. He however regretted the disaster such drug intake would cause to the passengers onboard the plane.
Senator Kalu further added that the takeoff and landing of airplane are auto set and conscious pilots can only observe the computer system very well to operate cautiously and carefully for safety reasons. He added that apart from some technical faults , huge mistakes are done by such drug influenced pilots.
Thinking of the danger such marijuana influence could be, Senator Orji Uzor frowned at pilots who endulge in marijuana or drug intake on duty . In same manner majority of cabin staff also smoke certain degrees of drugs mostly (marijuana) and when one comes closer to them , the order will be noticed immediately.
He wondered certain misconducts by Air pilots and cabin staff as unprofessional and disaster prone to passengers and the entire aviation ministry. The senator therefore call for routine checks on Air plane pilots and workers at the airport mostly the cabin staff.
“I have witnessed such misconducts of several times and cautioned suspected marijuana intake? pilots and cabin staff to cancel flying the aircrafts. “You can imagine an Air plane Boeing 727 at such a risky tendency of marijuana intake pilots and cabin staff. “There’s every tendency of mistake by anyone on drug influence mostly while on public service cum official assignment” -Senator Orji Uzor hinted.
On the maintenance of runways in the airports, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu beckoned on Federal Government to assist and fund the agency of government in the aviation ministry to do solid work on runways. He noted the decadence in the aviation industry and called for immediate upgrade and regular checks and assessments.
Ministry of Aviation, NCA, NEMA and related agencies must rise up to conduct proper on- the- spot checks of Air plane pilots, cabin staff etc before boarding as Senator Orji Uzor Kalu alleges some Nigerian Pilots smoke Indian Hemp on duty.
This motion is expected to see the light of the day by requesting the senators to support the motion and give it speedy acceleration and the approval hit of the Senate gavel . This will surely reposition the aviation sector and modernize the conduct of Nigerian pilots and co- workers.
The risk of boarding Air planes in the guise of marijuana smoking pilots and cabin staff can ruin the lives of many innocent citizens and passengers across the continents. FG, NCA, NEMA and ever other relevant agency in the aviation industry must braise up to save lives and check on pilots and cabin staff on regular basis.
This is one of such motions that has public interest and should not be treated with levity. The Senate President has aligned to give this a yes vote by promising speedy acceleration because of the experience the sponsor of the motion, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has gathered while managing a private airline.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu hasn’t mentioned owning a private airline. However, he is mentioned as the chairman of SLOK Holding, which owns newspapers such as the Daily Sun and New Telegraph in Nigeria.
