Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu has urged both the state and federal governments not to shy away from supporting the Sports Writer’s Association of Nigeria (SWAN), noting that such “I don’t care” attitude is capable of reducing their relevance and jeopardize the sporting life.
While speaking to 9News Nigeria, Sam-Daddy urged the leadership of SWAN in Imo state to devise means that will guarantee them a financial autonomy to be able to tackle issues without hitches.
Anyanwu gave this charge weekend when he hosted the leadership of the association led by its state Chairman, Mr. Everest Ezihe in Owerri, the state capital.
While recalling the role of SWAN in developing indigenous sports, expressed bitterness that such association that had performed optimally is still lagging behind in the area of identifying hidden talents and engaging them meaningfully.
He challenged the leadership of SWAN to design relevant programmes aimed at reaching out to Imo sons and daughters that have made the state proud in the sports sector, and bring them together having made impact.
Speaking on behalf of his members, Chairman, Mr. Everest Ezihe described Senator Anyanwu as one man that has remained firm in settling problems affecting SWAN in the state.
According to him, as a super-sports enthusiast, his club, “Samdaddy FC” was able to defeat the state owned football club, Heartland FC in one of their tough matches, and commended him for all his contributions in the sports world.
Mr. Ezihe therefore assured his host of the association’s willingness to maintain a financial independence to avoid being misunderstood, while thanking him for supporting their forthcoming national summit.
The Chairman of SWAN therefore lauded the appointment of Mr. Ikenna Onuoha as Media Adviser to Senator Anyanwu, describing him as a round peg in a round hole.
SENATOR ANYANWU however task Imo SWAN on financial INDEPENDENCE.
