Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) better known as Shiite have taken to the streets of Niger State on Sunday to report the killing of Iranian’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Shiites in Nigeria are led by Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
9News Nigeria reported that Khamenei was killed in coordinated airstrikes by the United States and Israel military.
Dozens of IMN members mobilised shortly after the news of Khamenei’s alleged death filtered through the social media channels.
The protesters also marched through parts of the state chanting solidarity slogans and waving Iranian flags and placards bearing inscriptions such as “We Stand With Iran”
Demostrations also took place in other northern Nigerian states, including Kano and Kaduna.
Protesters carried portraits of Khamenei, chanting slogans condemning the strikes and expressing solidarity with the global Shiite communities.
Iranian authorities have reportedly confirmed Ayotollah Ali Khamenei’s death and declared a period of national mourning.
Local leaders in Nigeria urged calm, while warning that the “blood of the martyrs” must not be forgotten. Similar demostrations have been reported among Shiite communities such as Pakistan, Iraq and Kashmir.
