The Rivers State Government has withdrawn approval of the venue it granted the Atiku campaign team for hosting of the presidential rally.
This was contained in a letter dated January 31 and addressed to the governor of Sokoto and the director-general of the PDP presidential campaign council, Aminu Tambuwal, Rivers commissioner for sports, Christopher Green, said the approval has been withdrawn.
The commissioner for sports said the decision was taken following an alleged plot by the Atiku campaign team in the state to accommodate and share the facility with a “violent” faction of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) loyal to Tonye Cole, the Rivers APC governorship candidate.
He said Credible intelligence is available to the Government of Rivers State and recent developments now show that the PDP Presidential Campaign Organization is working in collaboration with the All-Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State led by Tonye Patrick Cole.
Meanwhile, the PDP presidential campaign council of Atiku Okowa 2023 election, Rivers State says, Governor Nyesom Wike’s withdrawal of the earlier approval of the Amiesimaka stadium for use of campaign by the PCC did not come to it as a surprise.
The spokesman of the PCC, Dr. Lelonu Nwibubasa said it was a Greek gift and a demonstration of desperation.
Dr. Nwibubasa in a chat with correspondent Ephraim Emmanuel said PDP faithful and Rivers people are not perturbed as the party is focused and Atiku and his team will campaign to Rivers electorates.
