The Sokoto State Government has approved N1.8 billion for HIV/AIDS kits, drugs, and the renovation of six additional hospitals.
Commissioner for Health, Dr Faruk Wurno, disclosed this after the State Executive Council meeting, noting that N100.6 million was allocated for HIV testing equipment and treatment in line with efforts to eliminate the disease.
The newly approved hospital projects, Yabo, Shagari, Sabon-Birni, Tangaza, Goronyo, and the Women and Children Hospital, Sokoto, total several hundred million naira each, with a six-month execution period and 30 per cent mobilisation fees already released.
The SEC also approved N72.6 million for digital devices under the UBE programme, N113.1 million for textbooks and notebooks, and N337.3 million for drainage construction in Gawon Nama and along the Wamakko–Orthopedic Hospital road.
Additionally, the council approved the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (2026–2028), which set revenue and spending projections to guide the state’s budgeting and development priorities.
