In commemoration of World Teachers’ Day, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, CFR, has applauded the impactful roles of teachers in shaping every progressive society and in nation-building.
Governor Soludo stated this during this year’s World Teachers’ Day celebration held at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.
In his address, the Governor acknowledged the indisputable efforts of teachers worldwide, underscoring their critical roles in Anambra State, particularly since he assumed office.
“Everyone was brought up by a teacher. You are doing a fantastic job, and I want to highlight that basic statistics show Anambra is leading in many educational metrics. There is no educational system without the teachers,” he said.
Recall that 8,115 teachers have been recruited from 18 states across Nigeria by the Governor Soludo-led administration, resulting in over a 40 percent improvement in literacy, numeracy, and enrollment rates, reflecting the remarkable progress made under his leadership.
The Governor, however, acknowledged the challenges the state faced when he assumed office, while vowing to restore the education sector to its rightful place. He further revealed plans to recruit even more teachers soon to ensure that Anambra continues to strengthen its educational landscape.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngọzi Chuma-Udeh, acknowledged the significant influence educators have on society, recognizing the vital role teachers play in shaping the community’s future. The Commissioner further emphasized the administration’s commitment to enhancing the quality of education and supporting the needs of families across Anambra.
In their separate remarks, Prof. Nkechi Ikediugwu, Chairman of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC), and the Chairman of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, highlighted the significant achievements recorded by the Governor in the education sector over the past three and a half years, assuring continued support for his ongoing initiatives.
Students of Ado Girls Secondary School, Onitsha, during their presentation, eulogized the indefatigable efforts of the Governor in bolstering the education system and prayed for him to accomplish even more.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of three million, one hundred and thirty naira by Teachers to support Governor Soludo and his Deputy for a second term in office.
