Veteran Nigerian comedian and social commentator, Alibaba, has reacted to a viral report claiming that men in Lagos State spent a staggering N661 billion on sex workers in 2024.
The report, which has raised eyebrows across social media and mainstream platforms, alleged that the massive sum was expended within a single calendar year triggering concerns about priorities and lifestyle choices in urban Nigeria.
Weighing in on the development, Alibaba suggested that the claim, while seemingly outrageous, may not be far from reality.
He pointed to the lavish lifestyles of some women in the state and the sources of their affluence.
“Some of these properties are bought by these people for these girls,” he remarked, implying that a significant portion of the wealth being spent on transactional relationships often manifests in material acquisitions such as luxury apartments, cars, and designer items.
Alibaba’s comment adds a new dimension to the ongoing public discourse, highlighting the economic implications of informal sexual transactions and the blurred lines between gift-giving, sponsorship, and sex work.
However, the origin of the N661 billion figure remains unclear.
